We’re looking for 6–10 young people aged 16 to 25 to collaborate with a professional photographer on an exciting creative project. Together, you’ll co-create a series of photographic portraits celebrating iconic and important women, girls, and non-binary people in Rotherham.

This is a unique opportunity to explore photography, develop creative skills, and help tell meaningful stories that deserve to be seen and shared. The final portraits would be displayed as part of WOW Rotherham Festival 2026.

Applications are open to young people from Rotherham and South Yorkshire.

Sessions:

• Session 1: 5.30pm–7.30pm, Garden Room Clifton Park, Tuesday 14th April
• Session 2: 5.30pm–7.30pm, Annex at Rotherham Civic Theatre, Wednesday 22^nd April
• Session 3: 10am – 4pm, Annex at Rotherham Civic Theatre, Sunday 26^th April
• Exhibition Launch: 9^th May, WOW Rotherham Festival, Rotherham Town Centre

Session 1 – Relationship building, research & exploration

• Meet the group and the photographer
• Explore visual styles, portraiture, and storytelling
• Work with museum staff to discover archival inspiration
• Begin identifying subjects for the portraits

Session 2 – Planning & creative development

• Creative workshops with the photographer
• Develop stories and approaches to each portrait
• Try photography techniques through test shoots and self-portraits
• Co-create ideas and agree on final plans for the portraits

Session 3 – Image making & portrait sessions

• Produce final portraits (location decided by the group)
• Work collaboratively on a professional photoshoot experience

What you’ll get:

No previous experience is needed—just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to get involved.
