Spread the Word – Open Mic Night

Join us for a captivating poetry open-mic night featuring guest poet Ray Hearne, a South Yorkshire-based singer and songwriter. You’ll have the chance to perform your own poetry at the Open Mic Night! This event welcomes all abilities, and we hope everyone feels comfortable enough to share.

You will be able to perform your own poetry at the Open Mic Night! This opportunity is for all abilities, we hope everyone feels comfortable enough to share in our space.

The Feastery will be open for Bar snacks and sweet treats as well as hot, cold and alcoholic drinks. Last Orders 8.30pm.

 

About Ray Hearne

Writer and performer of songs and poems rooted in South Yorkshire communities, their histories and experiences. Creator of songs with and for kids of all ages; little, big and ancient. Organiser and facilitator of writers’ workshops at every corner of South Yorkshire. Co-presenter with Rony Robinson for many years of Write On, Radio Sheffield’s poetry programme

Musical Director of Rotherham’s Hearts of Steel project. Chair of No Masters song-writing Co-operative. Contributing writer to BBC Radio 2’s long running Radio Ballads series; Song of Steel, Miners’ Strike, First World War etc as well as to the Sheffield Women of Steel fund-raising campaign that brought the statues to Barker’s Pool

Ray’s poem, A Sing Song for Stainless Steel, was cut into fourteen Kilkenny marble benches now sited along the Moor in Sheffield City centre

Recent work has included Grimethorpe High Street project, writing shanties for Rotherham museum, The Ballad of Wentworth and Elsecar for WE Wonder project, Paragraph, Page or Poem project during Lockdown, with Rotherham Libraries, and writing, in the summer of 2023, A Love-song for Wath upon Dearne, and An Oratorio for the Rotherham Show

Albums include Broad Street Ballads, The Wrong Sunshine, and Umpteen, all available on No Masters label and Songs of Joseph Mather available from Ray
