Over the space of 3 years, we have run a variety of WOW Think Ins to consult with communities about what WOW Rotherham is to them and what type of programming they’d like to see in the festival and year-round.
The main themes that emerged are:
- Women’s health, anything from sexual health to menopause
- Parenting and relationships
- Mental Health and wellbeing
- Gender Identity
- Body Positivity

Our Programme so far:
Gathering Space
In 2024 WOW Rotherham Year-Round brought a vibrant, colourful, bold, fun, and fearless space to the heart of Rotherham, celebrating women, girls, trans and non-binary communities. We created a flagship hub on the High Street in the Town Centre where people came together for discussions, workshops, and shared meals.
What was on offer:
-
A monthly supper club where people grabbed a bite to eat and helped shape WOW moments in Rotherham
-
Drop-in workshops that nurtured inner activists through creative sessions
-
The chance to meet some of the FLUX Rotherham team and learn about the work we do and how to get involved
Supper Club and Drop-in Workshops
Each month, WOW Rotherham Year-Round hosted an evening in our Gathering Space with delicious food from a community cook, a welcoming environment, and time to plan new events. These open-invite evenings required tickets and offered a chance to connect, collaborate, and co-create the WOW Rotherham programme. We shared dates on our social media for casual drop-ins and creative workshops. These free sessions welcomed everyone for a chat, some crafting, and a chance to connect with the team.
Reclaim the Night 2024

Rotherham once again came together for the annual Reclaim the Night event, marking its 10th year with a special celebration on Thursday, 21st November from 4pm to 8pm. This year’s theme was ‘celebration’—honouring the women, trans, and non-binary residents of Rotherham.
Reclaim the Night has been prominent in cities and towns across the UK for nearly five decades. Its initial message in the 1970s was the rage and anger that women felt about being given curfews in response to severe violence against women and girls. These reactions are still prevalent today, as women show their fury at having to take extra measures to ensure their own safety within their daily lives.
Rotherham’s Reclaim the Night started in November 2015 when around 100 people walked through the town to celebrate and highlight the past, present and future of women’s empowerment. In 2023 WOW Rotherham joined as a partner and the participant engagement tripled.
