Led by Flux Rotherham and supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project will uncover and preserve the memories, stories, photographs and memorabilia connected to the borough’s much-loved working men’s clubs and social venues. These spaces were once the beating heart of local communities — places where people gathered for live music, dancing, celebrations, friendship and entertainment.
Through oral history recordings, public drop-in sessions, exhibitions, community events and creative activities, Palladiums of the North will bring together residents, former club-goers, performers and families to share the everyday heritage of Rotherham’s club culture.
Collected materials will be digitised, catalogued and preserved in partnership with Rotherham Museums, Arts and Heritage, helping to safeguard these stories for future generations.
The project will culminate in an immersive installation at Clifton Park Museum and a grand finale performance event at Rotherham Show, created with local communities, performers and artists.

We need your help!
There are many ways to get involved and if you have a story or memories of the clubs, we’d love to hear from you. We’re inviting residents, former club-goers, family members and performers to share their stories. Â
Public drop-in sessions will be held at local clubs, libraries and care settings across the borough, giving people the opportunity to share their memories, photographs and memorabilia. Anyone with stories to tell can get involved by emailing [email protected], following Flux Rotherham on Facebook and Instagram, or signing up to the newsletter for the latest updates.Â
For those who prefer to connect in person, we will also bring exhibitions, activities and events to social venues and community hubs across the borough. Keep an eye out for an event near you – or get in touch if you'd like to host one in your community.
