Green & Growing

Project overview

We’ve had a rebrand! After some thought and reflection, we’ve decided that the Green and Growing Programme needs to be refreshed to become Green & Creative. Check it out here.

In the Green and Growing Programme, we work together with community partners, individuals, and artists to raise awareness about the climate emergency and make a positive impact on the environment.

People tell us that green spaces and being in nature is one of the best things about life in Rotherham and they want to get outside and get creative in those sites.

Rotherham boasts a rural landscape covering over 70% of its area, featuring acclaimed destinations like the 80-hectare Clifton Park and Green Flay-awarded sites such as Ulley, Greasbrough, and Rother Valley. Additionally, picturesque open water sites like Manvers and Thrybergh offer unique experiences. The region also has remarkable heritage sites such as Waterloo Kiln, Clifton Museum, Wentworth Woodhouse, Keppel’s Column, and Boston Castle, nestled amidst both formal and informal gardens.

The River Don, once pivotal to the industrial growth of Sheffield and Rotherham, meanders through the heart of Rotherham, serving as a sanctuary for diverse wildlife including otters, fish and birds.

Parks, playing fields, and village greens serve as vibrant hubs for creative expression, hosting a variety of events ranging from impromptu performances to theatre productions, workshops, and festivals.

In this Green and Growing Programme FLUX Rotherham will be working with a wide range of community partners and individuals to focus on raising awareness of the climate emergency and activating positive change for the environment.

We will connect into Rotherham’s green and blue social prescribing network to join up opportunities around creating and siting arts in outdoor places, encouraging more varied and active use of Rotherham’s rich and plentiful green spaces.

Green and Growing, Active and Creative Outdoors in 2025 with Flux Rotherham

We are planning an exciting and varied programme of ‘Creative Walks’ for 2025. Green and Growing walks are designed to encourage as many people as possible to get active and creative outdoors with us, so we’re including variety of walks: different lengths and challenges, family walks and social walks, neighbourhood walks and ones that take you to new places. Hopefully something for everyone.

Each of our walks includes a creative activity led by a chosen artist who will support you in exploring or reflecting in some way on the places where we’ll be walking, you don’t need to be an ‘artist’ though, just come and enjoy the walk and have a go at the creative activity if you chose to.

We hope you’ll find something to tempt you into joining us and explore some of the amazing green spaces in Rotherham, both new and familiar.

We look forward to seeing you at the Green and Growing walks this year, please feel free to contact Alison Somerset-Ward for more information on 07596857387 or by email at [email protected]  if you have any questions or need more information.
