Rebecca Brown
Working in porcelain and stoneware, I combine drawing, painting and printmaking to build narrative on the surface of decorative hand built ceramics. I initially studied Textile and Surface Design at Gray’s School of Art in 2010, before going on to study for a Masters in Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art in 2014. After graduating I moved from Inverness to Sheffield for the Ceramic Starter Studio at Yorkshire Artspace and have stayed put since, initially juggling making with work in paediatric healthcare and then in education. My favourite workshops to run combine hand-building with clay and decorating the surface using a range of drawing and printmaking techniques, but I've enjoyed running workshops in varied subjects and materials. These include simple bookbinding, making zines, stop motion animation and printmaking. I enjoy sewing as a hobby and would love to incorporate this into a workshop! Previous workshops have been in collaboration with Museums Sheffield, Yorkshire Artspace, Artworks SY, staff at Sheffield Children's Hospital, South Yorkshire Housing Association, Hospitalfield, An Talla Solais and The Clay Studio in Inverness.
