Flux and imitating the dog are looking for four young filmmakers to create short original films to be part of “Otherham”.
Otherham is a video and sound installation trail created for Children’s Capital of Culture’s Winter Festival in January 2025. It re-imagines the centre of Rotherham as a place which is slightly out of step with reality; a magical place where anything is possible. The films will be shown outdoors at one of our fantastical buildings: “The Cinema of Future Films”.
The films can be made in any style: animation, cinema, stop-motion, video art…anything! They should be created around the theme of “Hidden Worlds”. The festival will have a real sense of magic and playfulness and we’ll be looking to include ideas which fit within that ethos.
They should be 2-3 minutes in length and, as part of a family festival, be accessible and appealing to all. A soundtrack is preferable but not vital.
Filmmaking today is more accessible than it's ever been, smartphones and apps give young people a voice and the opportunity to share their stories with others.
The four winning films will receive a £400 production fee. Alongside support from a professional mentor and be featured at the launch of Children’s Capital of Culture next year!
The “Otherham” film competition is open to all young people aged 16-25 living in or studying in Rotherham.
