Hopes for the future from the women of Rotherham

Hopes for the future from the women of Rotherham

Emma Wilson, award-winning artist and photographer has been commissioned to create new artworks with local groups in the run up to the 2022 WOW Rotherham Festival.

During the sessions, participants are being photographed using a Polaroid Camera. These portraits are then used to create artworks of the women and girls, by all the women and girls involved.

At these making sessions, Emma is also working with participants to create a short statement which expresses their hopes for the future of the women of Rotherham.

The digitised portraits will be combined with WOW graphics and information and turned into site decoration and waymarking as part of the festival.

The lasting impression will be work which gives women and girls of Rotherham a platform to have their voices heard whilst taking part in a fun, engaging collaborative art activity where they can explore their creativity in a supportive environment.

Emma is working with groups across Rotherham including One Voice, Tassibee, Women Supporting Women, College Road Mosque, Ferham Mosque, Coleridge Primary School, Wales High School, Community Connects, Rotherham Pioneers, Mind, The Kashmiri and Yemeni Older People’s Group and Cherry Trees Care Home.
