This public sculpture embodies educational outreach; it was built by the apprentices of MTL Advanced, (a dynamic, technologically advanced manufacturing specialist in the metal sector, based in Rotherham) and includes local children’s drawings and young people’s story telling from groups at Grimm & Co.

The sculpture’s roots weave through the local community that contributed to its creation. The petals of the CAMELLIA are inspired by both the flower head of the first camellias to be planted in the country, at Wentworth Woodhouse, and the scrap crane grapples at C F Booth, the notorious local scrap yard.

The pastel colours of the sculpture are inspired by the rich pigments found in Fresco Paintings of the Italian Renaissance. Hopefully creating a focal point of blossoming colour visible from various view points in the town.
