Join creative artist and facilitator Charlie Hill to explore Canklow Woods, an ancient woodland and an important part of Rotherham's green heritage. Her work explores playful ways to connect people with the natural world through creative making and doing.

Come with us and explore Canklow woods! We'll be making story sticks to record our journey through the woods, collecting the sounds and sights of the trees and plants we find on our phones to make a sound and vision collage, and then making camp in a secret spot to create woodland creatures from clay and the natural materials we find can find.
Journey sticks are a way of recording a journey and remembering it later on. You can personalise your stick with special decorations and add to it as you walk. Once you’ve finished you can use your stick as a prop to help you tell stories about your journey.
Aboriginal people in Australia used journey sticks to help them remember their journeys, tell other people about them and re trace their steps if they wanted to. They found a large stick, collected materials found along the way, and tied them to the stick in chronological order. Native Americans also decorated sticks to recount their journeys and tell about their travels.Â
There might be time for a snooze in a hammock too!
