FLUX Rotherham in partnership with Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust is looking to commission a digital artwork to be shown as part of the main visitor route at Wentworth Woodhouse.
The artwork will build on the legacy of Beneath the Surface: George Stubbs and Contemporary Artists. This 2024 exhibition marked the 300th anniversary of artist George Stubbs’s birth. It positioned Stubbs as an artist in residence at Wentworth Woodhouse, as he spent “some time” at the House in 1762. Whilst here, he painted the famous Whistlejacket. The exhibition brought together works by George Stubbs with contemporary animal and equine works, juxtaposing old and new.
As Wentworth Woodhouse develops the signage and storytelling in its State Rooms, they would like to continue to tell George Stubbs and Whistlejacket’s story, alongside other stories that celebrate Wentworth’s history that places Rotherham on the map.
We’re looking for imaginative, thoughtful proposals which use digital approaches to immerse visitors in Wentworth Woodhouse’s stories, including that of George Stubbs’s residency. We want visitors to connect to the past, and be proud of Rotherham’s past.
