Breaking the Bias, an exhibition and event celebrating women's achievements, raising awareness and smashing stereotypes as part of International Women’s Day 2022

Jo Kennedy and Mariam Rezaei will be showcasing their artworks at this special event.

Jo Kennedy is a sound artist and technician based in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. Motivated by an awareness of the environmental crisis, and a desire to explore creative ways to connect people with their local environment and wildlife, her creative work sits at the intersection between art and environmental science, responding to questions about our relationship with places and creatures. Jo co-produces a podcast (Nature Tripping) and is a co-director at Yorkshire Sound Women Network.

Mariam Rezaei works with turntables, electronics and vocals. Based in Gateshead, she is part of TOPH, who program TUSK Fringe and TUSK NORTH festivals. Her work with turntables interrogates musical structures, materialism and aesthetics in electronic music practice, with an emphasis on live performance. Recent collaborators include Ala Al-Sultani, Stephen Bishop, Cath Tyler, Petronn Sphene and Rhodri Davies.
