About flux
Our Mission
Through the power of the arts, we are the co-creators of a cultural movement that celebrates diversity, nurtures personal growth and creates lasting connections between people. Together we are crafting a legacy where art is within the reach of everyone and deeply rooted in Rotherham’s Community Spirit.
Creative people and places programme
We are one of 46 programmes being developed across England as part of its Creative People and Places programme, covering 64 local authority areas. Creative People and Places focuses on parts of the country where involvement in creativity and culture is significantly below the national average. It funds partners in local areas to empower residents to decide what kind of creative activity they want to experience on their doorstep.
We are an action-research programme designed to engage Rotherham’s communities in arts and culture. The programme aims to transform local people’s involvement in leading and shaping relevant cultural provision. We do this through our creative projects and events, in collaboration with the Rotherham community.
Rotherham has also just been announced as one of Arts Council’s Priority Places until 2029. One of 54 places identified by Arts Council to effectively increase investment and engagement to create positive cultural change.
MEET THE TEAM
We are a dedicated team of core staff, consortium partners, creatives and volunteers with a wide range of skills and experience. We love what we do, and we love working with people.
We are based at Voluntary Action Rotherham supported by a group of partners: Grimm & Co., Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance, Voluntary Action Rotherham, Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust and Rotherham Council.

We’re delighted to share our vision for the next three years as Flux enters an exciting new chapter. Building on the learning, relationships and achievements of the programme so far, this plan sets out how we’ll continue to support local people to shape arts and culture across Rotherham.
As we move into the next phase of Flux, we’re committed to deepening community leadership, testing new ideas and creating more opportunities for people to influence the cultural life of the borough.
